How to get rid of acne scars, part two: Treatment

Please do not attempt this treatment on skin that is still healing. If your scars are new, and while the wound is still healing, please use the recommendations from the previous video:

How to get rid of acne scars, part one: Prevention

Terms mentioned:

- Erythema (aka inflammation)
- AHA (alpha hydroxy acid), often glycolic or lactic acid, best for dry skin
- Salicylic acid (aka BHA, but not technically not a BHA), best for oily skin

- Kojic acid
- Antioxidants
- IPL (laser treatment, Intense Pulsed Light—not a resurfacing tx)
- Laser resurfacing (more invasive than IPL, has downtime)

All of those sunscreens are "mineral" actives, which means they are best for inflamed/irritated skin (over "chemical", aka synthetic sunscreen actives).

I do not work for Paula's Choice, so any questions/concerns/complaints about their products should be directed to their customer service department at 1-800-831-4088. They are delightful. :)

I unfortunately do not have a pre-made scrub recommendation at this time. I'm doing research, and I will update this section and post on facebook if I find one I like. I always recommend rice powder and jojoba beads in general, so you can experiment with those (mixing them with your cleanser).

I cannot recommend dermarollers at this time. Interesting idea, not enough information/studies. Use at your own risk.

I didn't mention using high strength retinol in the video, because in my experience, it is not as effective for textural, "pit" scarring on its own, and can be problematic to combine with microderm type treatments. You can use low strength retinols with the protocol I described as tolerated, but I don't recommend using something like Retin A as the primary tx for scarring. Personal preference.

  1. Love your reviews and the fact that you are also the fan of Paula's Choice, which helped me to solve almost all my skin issues.

After seeing you review, I purchased several Paula's Choice sunscreens. At the moment I am testing the new one from the Calm line (identical to the skin recovery mineral sunscreen). I love it so far!

In some other post I saw you invite people to share their referral links, so I hope I don't break the rules by posting it here.
